What is an Academy?

An academy is a high quality, specialised course of study that seeks to motivate, engage and inspire participants in their area of passion. Aims of the two academies include; the development of lifelong healthy attitudes to physical health and activity, leadership, self-discipline as well as the desire to achieve excellence in all areas of their schooling. Students will also have the opportunity to explore future pathways in the sporting industry.

What does it mean to be part of the SJGS Football Academy?

Students in year 5 - 8 will receive 2 specialist sessions per week in Australian Rules Football. These sessions will follow a strategic plan that aims to build students skills, game sense and professionalism within the game of AFL. It provides students with the opportunity to have access to elite coaches who will develop the skills required to succeed in the sport.

Students are expected to represent SJGS at all AFL competitions held throughout the school year; both in and out of school hours.   There will be a progression from the year 7 & 8 program into the Senior School as the students progress with their schooling.
